Characteristics of Successful Entrepreneurs

A lot has been said about entrepreneurs as being "risk takers" - and of course that may well be true when you compare them against salaried employees, but that really doesn't define what an entrepreneur is. So what does?

Simply put, an entrepreneur is someone who sees an opportunity and gets the resources in place to take advantage of it. That may mean hustling relatives for loans, through to convincing people like us, to invest in their businesses. More often than not, it means that they identify people to work with, suppliers with great value offerings and a customer base that can pay them their worth.

To do this they need to be driven individuals - passionate without being obstinate. Yes, there are mountains to climb on the road to success and not giving up is a critical component for success, but being blind to reality is just plain silly. They need to take others with them, and so they need to be leaders who can assess people well and manage their approach accordingly. They also need to be practical and action oriented - there is a time for analysis that's for sure, but if no-one gets out there and gets their hands dirty.. there will be no business!

Entrepreneurs need good networking skills because business is about people and people buy from people. They need to be good communicators to get their message across clearly. Finally, they do need to have the skills to put a business idea into action. This may not be perfect, that is why we are here to help, but they must have some business sense and an ability to learn fast
